The Process Is the Practice
A weekend of yoga, inquiry, and reflection with CJ

Extended vinyasa classes, guided inquiry, and reflection.
The idea is simple: how do we better understand our yoga practice, so it works for where we are today?
Throughout the weekend, we'll use familiar postures and transitions to look closely at support, range of motion, strength, balance, and the different ways we move from one
shape to another.
We'll ask questions like:
-
Do I have enough support to move deeper?
-
Am I using range of motion I can actually control?
-
Would more strength help here?
-
Could I modify this and still get what I need?
-
Is there another way to approach the same posture?
There won't always be one answer.
The goal is to give you a clearer sense of the choices you have within your practice, while still spending plenty of time doing what we came to do: practice.
arrive + listen
Friday, 16 October
Practice: 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Location: pure yoga in Wuppertal
We‘ll open with a whole-body vinyasa practice:
a balance of strong and gentle movement, with room to breathe, slow down, and settle into the weekend, before winding down gradually into an electronic sound bath and deep rest.
clarify + explore
Saturday, 17 October
Practice: 10:00-12:00 am and reflections: 13:00-14:30 pm
Location: bodhi yoga in Cologne
Saturday turns toward the hips and lower body. Our extended morning practice moves through mobility, strength, balance, lunges, squats, and hip rotation: different ways of working with postures and transitions.
REFLECTION:
We‘ll come back together for 60–90 minutes at a slower pace to break things down, test different approaches, ask questions, and see how range of motion, strength, and support relate to each other. Think less lecture, more practice, conversation, and inquiry.
integrate + create
Sunday, 18 October
Practice: 10:00-12:00 am and reflections: 13:00-14:30 pm
Location: bodhi yoga in Cologne
Sunday brings those ideas into a heart-opening vinyasa practice: shoulders, upper back, hips, strength, and backbending, using what we found on Saturday to make choices along the way. For one person, that might mean adding depth or challenge.
For someone else, it might mean changing the range, adding support, or choosing a different variation altogether. The point isn‘t for everyone to land in the same posture. It‘s learning what you‘re doing, why you‘re doing it, and what you need today.
REFLECTION:
We‘ll close the weekend with 60–90 minutes to move, ask questions, and reflect on how to carry these ideas into your regular practice.
About Carleton James
I’ve always been drawn to connection - to people, to movement, and to the emotional threads that run through body, mind, and spirit. Yoga found me after years of sports and structure, at a time when I was looking for something that felt more honest and lasting. My first training was in Hatha Yoga back in 2013 with Becca Hewes in Oklahoma City. Wanting to learn more about the asana practice, I later studied with Awakening Yoga Academy, completing another 200-hour and a 500-hour certification. I’m grateful for their mentorship and the years of training that helped shape my foundation, but just as much, I’m shaped by the people I’ve taught and taught with, the places I’ve moved through, and the lessons that come with simply continuing to show up.
I hold a Master’s in Exercise Science and have been teaching fulltime
for over a decade - classes, retreats, workshops, and private sessions. Lately, my teaching has opened into new directions, blending breath, movement, and soft instrumental practices in ways that feel alive and grounded. I aim to create space for your own experience. You step in, you move, and what you carry with you is uniquely yours.
Who ist this for?
This weekend is open to teachers and practitioners alike. You don‘t need to be a teacher, or have an advanced practice, to take part. And while we‘ll spend time learning, this isn‘t a teacher training. There will be plenty of yoga: time to move, sweat, breathe, rest, and enjoy being in practIce. The hope is that you leave with a stronger sense of your own body, and a few practical tools that make you more confident: in a studio, in an online class, or on your own at home. You don‘t need to know what your practice needs before you begin. Part of the practice is learning how to figure that out.
The process is the practice.
